Emergency. 100 Years. Different. And Yet, the Same?

Even with our electronic devices and technology, some that perished on Cabbage Hill/Deadman's Pass last week in the horrible bus accident are still not identified.  Some of their families have not been notified and it's been a week.  Imagine what it would have been like 100 years ago.  Cabbage Hill is scary even more so now than in the summer.  The one time I drove myself, Grandma Ruth was with me in a new Hyundai Scoupe in the middle of summer.  She kept pretending to shift her bottom while leaning over to see the speedometer and once in Vale, my cousins were amazed that my 'rice burner' made it across.  I can't imagine the winter in a tour bus. RIP to those whose last view was our scenic Oregon.  I only hope I am that lucky.
As I share this moment in Oregon's history, I do not mean to diminish those hurting today, or those who had a haunting experience 100 years ago.  It is just to compare and contrast. Bus/Train. Satellite/Wire. Does 100 years make a difference?   If you are worried more about the mud on your shoes than your hand held device, it might just show how our priorities have changed.  Don't you think?  Or has it?  Was a pair of shoes worth more than your iPhone?
Bringing you a bit of Oregon this year, one day at a time.
