Modern Confections

The Oregonian, April 9, 1913

100 years ago today, The Oregonian reported the Modern Confectioners Company, which opened in 1904, was going to build a new factory.  Their specialty was in fine package goods, pan work, chocolates and bon bons and Modern really did have the most modern equipment all "marvels of mechanical genius." $50,000 was quite the investment--about $1.14 million today--about the same price you would pay to buy one of the six units there (in 1999 it was converted to condos).

Modern ran helped wanted ads for girls who were "first class" chocolate and bon bon  dippers or wrappers.  They also ran ads for "large boys," which, given their advertising at the time, may not have been that difficult.
